How to dress for cold mornings and warm afternoons

Now that we have finally moved into fall in southern California, the mornings are quite chilly around 54F / 12C and the afternoon can heat up to 72F / 22C.  So what’s a gal to do? Dress light and freeze in the morning or dress heavy and sweat in the afternoon?  How about .. layering!

In the morning, I pile on the layers, but make sure that I can peel those layers off as the day gets warmer.  Today, I started off with a cap sleeve, gray dress and knee high boots.  For warmth, I added a denim suit jacket and an infinity scarf.

Later in the day I just take off the jacket and the scarf and tuck the scarf into my tote bag.

The dress that I’m wearing is no longer available at Kohl’s, but for the pear shaped gal, try Dana Buchman Solid Fit & Flare dress or Chaps Colorblock Sheath dress with 3/4 sleeves.

The bag that I’m carrying is the Park Leather Pyramid Stud Carrier Tote that I purchased online at Coach Outlet.  This tote was originally $428.00 and I paid $174.50 and now it’s at $159.50 (grrrr).  I guess as quantities go down, so does the price.  However, if your heart is set on a particular bag, grab it, as really cute bags sell out quickly.

What are your favorite ways to layer for cold mornings and warm afternoons?

Love your tips for layering! I only wish it were that warm here in Oregon! 😉 And that Coach bag is heaven. I just love a good Coach bag! <3

I think I would definitely use light jackets and scarves as layering techniques. You already know about our super cold weather – we layer and layer with the goal of keeping those layers on throughout the day! 😉 I’m also a fan of lighter sweaters for cooler weather – they tend to be breezy enough that I can still wear them even if it’s getting warmer out.

We will get colder weather (eventually) that will stay cold through out the day. Right now it’s cold then HOT then cold .. so layering in a must 😉

It’s definitely nice for a change. I’ve pulled out a few of my ankle boots as well. Of course I had on my suede ankle boots yesterday and it rained 😛
