I am so happy! I finished my course work for my certificate in nutrition. I have earned a Professional Certificate in Nutrition for Optimal Health, Wellness and Sports. Now this doesn’t make me as knowledgeable as a registered dietitian or nutritionist as both require a four year degree, but it was good for me to go through the course work and learn better ways to fuel my body with beneficial foods.
Speaking of beneficial foods, I created an anti-inflammatory fruit smoothie. What makes this smoothie anti-inflammatory? Well, it’s the addition of turmeric. I know what you’re thinking .. Ooo, curry flavor in my smoothie? No thanks!
I promise you that you won’t taste the turmeric in your smoothie, but you will get a few benefits from this orange-yellow spice. Turmeric is known as a functional food which implies that it has identified value leading to health benefits. Curcumin which gives turmeric its warm yellow color is an antioxidant and fights inflammation. This spice can protect us from heart disease as well as cancer.
|Tera’s Whey | Turmeric | Home made vanilla almond milk | Plate of strawberries, blueberries, and mango|
|Beautiful yellow-orange turmeric|
I added 1/4 tsp of turmeric, but if you think it’s too much .. just add 1/8 tsp.
As you can see from the photo above the turmeric doesn’t affect the color of the smoothie, but you get all those good anti-oxidants from the fruit and turmeric.
1.5 cups vanilla almond milk. I made my own almond milk, but you can use store bought.
1/8 to 1/4 tsp of turmeric
1/4 to 1/2 cup each of two to three types of fruit. I used strawberries, blueberries, and mango.
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder (optional). I used Terra’s Whey in Bourbon Vanilla. Use your favorite brand of protein powder.
Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend. Drink and enjoy.
