Green smoothie for breakfast

Every now and then I like to make a green smoothie for breakfast.  I’ve made a few in the past that have been gag worthy, but the Glowing Green Smoothie from Kimberly Snyder’s, The Beauty Detox Solution is quite good (with a few adjustments).  I do have the book and enjoyed reading it, but in general, the meal plan is too restrictive for a carnivore like me.

I purchased the Vita Mixer last year and it took me three months to pay it off.  It is expensive, but I know I’ll have it for years.  You can’t process food based smoothies in a regular blender as it simply doesn’t have the power to pulverize the fruits and leafy greens.  I suppose you could try, but you’ll be eating chunks and that doesn’t sound appetizing at all.

In the photo above, I did remember to put the lid on top before mixing.  I can’t say that has always been the case, and yes the mix will hit the ceiling especially if you’re too dumb to know that the dial is on 10 when you flip the on switch.

Here’s to good health!

The original recipe is posted below and you can visit Kimberly’s site here for step-by-step instructions with pictures.

M’s version of the Glowing Green Smoothie:
1.5 cups water
1 head organic romaine lettuce, chopped ( I used about 4- 5 leaves )
1/2 bundle of organic spinach ( I use a good size handful of bag spinach and I give it a rough chop)
3 – 4 stalks of organic celery ( If you actually want to drink this, don’t add the celery )
1 organic apple, cored and chopped
1 organic pear, cored and chopped
1 organic banana
Juice of 1/2 lemon

Directions:  I just put everything in the blender and with the dial on 1, turn the blender on.  Then slowly move the speed dial from 1 – 10, then flip the variable switch to high for a few seconds.

As far as buying organic goes .. sometimes I buy organic and sometimes I don’t.  I do try to buy organic fruits and veggies that are on the dirty dozen list, but it depends on how the organic produce looks and the price.

Do you have a favorite green smoothie?

Cheers,
Monica
