Four favorites for January and one for the round file

1. Orofluido Hair Oil:

My hair behaves perfectly well in the dry desert weather, but on the coast of San Diego where the mornings can be misty, my hair sprouts these wirly little twigs.  So I went to a local beauty supply store in my area for the M Moroccan oil.  I’ve used the M Moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner (which I highly recommend), but I’ve never used the oil.  When I was verbally shocked at the price of the M Moroccan oil ($45.00), the sales gal showed me the Orofluido Hair Elixer which is about $20.00 cheaper than the M Moroccan oil.  The Orofluido works exactly the same and makes my hair silky, shiny and most of all – frizz free.

2. L’Oreal HIP Jelly Balm in Plush (pink):

This is actually my second L’Oreal HIP Jelly Balm in plush.  It’s my go to balm for the weekend.  It has a hint of color and great shine.  The balm isn’t sticky and has a vanilla scent.  One caveat is that you have to use a brush or your finger for application.  I also have this balm in Luscious (purple) and Ripe (peach), but the pink is my favorite.

3. Bobbi Brown blush in Sand Pink:

One of my NYX blushes kept crumbling in the pan even though I never dropped it.  I decided to tap the crumbs out of the blush and the whole blush popped right out of the pan.  After that I decided to upgrade my blush to Bobbie Brown.  The make up artist at the counter thought Bobbie Brown’s blush in Sand Pink would look good on me and she was right.  The color is a nice silky dusty pink in a matte formula with good pigmentation.  So far no crumbling.

4. Boots No. 7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream – Normal / Dry Skin

It is so difficult to find a plain night time moisturizing cream that doesn’t have 5 to 7 anti aging benefits all wrapped up in the formula.  I just wanted a simple moisturizer that I could put over my anti aging serums and found the Boots No. 7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream – Normal / Dry Skin.  This night cream is a no gimmicks, no turn back the clock miracle cream.  It is just a simple moisturizing formula with a light floral scent that works great.  Sometimes simple is the best.

For the round file (aka ‘the trash’):

Anastasia, Illumin8 with Youthful Synergy Complex Eye Shadow Palette #1

I purchased this palette because the eye shadows are supposedly infused with anti aging properties (er, didn’t I just say something about simple being the best?).  Anywhoo, the eye shadows are quite pretty, there are browns, pink, maroon, gray, purple; however, most of the colors hardly have any pigmentation.  I’ve used this palette quite a bit (you can see a divot in the pink, 4th down from the top), but I’m just tired of digging in the palette for some sort of color pay off.  So as of this post, this palette is no longer part of my collection.

Are you good about tossing makeup that doesn’t work for you or do you hang on to it forever?

Cheers,
Monica

Ugh…guilty. I keep my makeup for a while until I force myself to do a purge. I always do the “well, someday it might come in handy.” Yeaah, if it hasn’t been used in 5+ years, it probably never will be.

P.S. I just started using Argan oil…have you ever tried that?

I haven’t tried Argan oil on its own, but have tried a few Josie Marin products (she uses argon oil in her products). Her cream eye shadows are infused with argon oil and that make up just slides right off my face. Probably great stuff for people in the dry winter states though :-)

Ohh…that doesn’t sound appealing. I just got some pure Argan oil (from TJ Maxx – surprise, surprise). It was on clearance and I had heard how good it was for you so we shall see…

I’m one of those who holds onto make up, even if I don’t love it. I think it comes from never having a lot of money. I feel wasteful to throw something away. I won’t even say how long I keep things that I love and use! :-)

I agree .. it’s wasteful to toss, but I have no regrets on getting rid of that Anastasia palette. It wasn’t working for me and it was taking up space, so out if goes :-)
